Summary - December 2011

Ningxia, Gansu and Qinghai Projects
In the mountainous regions, most people live in dire poverty. There is a desperate need for medical aid. The China West team steps in to provide medical/dental services and eye care. They train local doctors, dentists and key health educators, at local schools, to bring long-term change to this region. Over the past 20 years, they have implemented 16 EMAS hospitals and have cared for thousands of patients.

Living Water Project
The lack of safe drinking water, in this area, is a critical problem. Over the past 20 years, EMAS has implemented nine “Living Water” projects, supplying safe drinking water for villages and households in this region. The EMAS team has helped reduce water-born diseases and infections by providing new reservoirs, cisterns and water pipes—a total of nine water projects. Local monuments have been built, publicly proclaiming “Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst again.”

1990 - 2010 Celebrating
Twenty Years in Ningxia

The year 2010 marks the 20th anniversary of the first EMAS China West medical mission to Ningxia, which started with three team members. Today the teams consist of close to 50 members. The Ningxia officials have acknowledged that it is because of the kindness of Christians, that all this medical aid to Ningxia has been possible.

For 20 years now, ever since the first team set foot in Ningxia in 1991, we have been serving the people and building relationships. We have experienced countless blessings and miracles:

Increasing Number of Team members

We started with only three team members in 1991. After twenty years, a total of 512 team members have participated in China West missions, in spite of difficulties, costs and distance.

Expansion of Outreach

We started the work in Ningxia 20 years ago and expanded to Shaanxi 11 years ago and to Gansu six years ago. Since 2008, we've also added Qinghai.

Living Water Projects

Since 1992, EMAS has established ten "Living Water" projects in rural Ningxia, to help meet the desperate need for drinking water, to reduce the occurrence of infection and to bring hope to the villagers.

EMAS Hospitals

Since 1994, EMAS has established thirteen hospitals in Ningxia, three hospitals in Shaanxi and two hospitals in Gansu. As a result, countless villagers have received physical healing and encouragement.

Training

EMAS has funded six years of systematic training and continued medical education for the health personnel in Ningxia. The training program has also included some township health personnel. ESL has been another one of our regular programs

Medical Aid

Over the past 20 years, we have held lectures, training and demonstrations; we have done medical/dental care and surgeries. We have also donated medications, equipment, medical and dental supplies.

Children's Program

Our program leaders have been reaching out to thousands
of poor and helpless children in these villages, bringing them
hope and joy, and giving them gifts.

Ningxia Medical Mission Trip

The 40-member team held free clinics at several EMAS hospitals in Hai Yuan, Ningxia. We did training with local health personnel, taught English and distributed gifts to thousands of children. We also participated in the opening ceremony of the EMAS-San He Hospital.

Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of EMAS in Ningxia

We had two evenings of celebration for this 20th anniversary of EMAS in Ningxia. One was held in Hai Yuan and another in Yinchuan. We were delighted to see some old friends who came to the celebration.

Potential Project for Ningxia

The Hai Yuan Health Bureau has asked EMAS to fund $50,000 to help build the EMAS-Guan Qiu Hospital's In-patient building.

Qinghai Medical Mission Trip

The 24-member team held free clinics at both the Xining Gan-En Church site and the rural church site. The Xining church is now launching a project in Yu-Shu, Qinghai, which was hit by a major earthquake in April this year.

The Yu-Shu Earthquakes

We arrived at Qinghai about six weeks after the earthquakes which injured and killed many people. The Xining church has established a "Rescue & Treatment" base located in the midst of the Yu-Shu disaster, in co-operation with the local government. Some of us went to Yu-Shu to treat some of the earthquake victims.

The Xining Children's Home and Social Welfare Home

We had the opportunity to see and treat patients in the homes. Our dental team treated many of these patients in spite of difficult circumstances.

Conclusion

We're grateful for EMAS which enables us to serve and spread love in this remote part of China. For twenty years now, we've been making a difference in the lives of many villagers. I thank you for your continued support, encouragement and prayers.

Destructive Earthquake
Hits Yushu Region

A 6.9 magnitude earthquake has hit the Yushu region located in the southern part of the Qinghai province, about 800 km from Xining. Yushu has a population of 120,000 people. Death reports vary from 3,000 to 20,000. The hardest hit area was the city centre of Jiegu township where 80% of the houses have collapsed. It may take two to five years to rebuild this area.

November 2009

Ningxia, Shaanxi, Gansu
and Qinghai Projects

These are the poorest provinces in Western China. Most people in the mountainous regions live in extreme poverty and are in desperate need of medical aid. Since 1991, EMAS has been leading medical teams in this remote region, providing medications, medical and dental supplies, teaching and training local healthcare workers, treating patients and improving the overall health of these people. Over the past 19 plus years, they have also established nine “Living (drinking) Water” projects and 14 EMAS hospitals in this region. At the moment, there are two more EMAS hospitals under construction, one in Gansu and another in Ningxia. There are close to 400 team members who have participated in these EMAS China West Missions.

We have seen many lives changed, not only among
the Chinese people, but also among our team members.

Living Water Project

This area has a critical water shortage. It is like “The third world of the third world.” EMAS has been helping bring water to this region. We’ve helped reduce water-born infections by providing new reservoirs, cisterns and water pipes (nine water projects in total), bringing spring water to village households.

Thank you for your continued support, encouragement and prayers
for our EMAS China West Medical Mission.
