Help Desperately Needed in Haiti. Aid Slow to Reach “Bon Repos” Community. |
||||
| EMAS CANADA is responding to assist the victims of the deadly 7.0 earthquake that hit 10 miles from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on January 12. Many of the communities, surrounding Port-au-Prince, have been left in shambles. It is estimated that 200,000 have lost their lives, 300,000 have been injured, 4,000 have had amputations, and 1.5 million people are homeless. The needs are enormous. International aid doesn't appear to be reaching the outlying communities of Port-au-Prince, including Bon Repos where EMAS CANADA has been sending missions teams for over 10 years. 50% of the buildings and houses in this area have been destroyed by the earthquake. Our Haitian partners have set up a makeshift emergency operations centre and EMAS CANADA is sending them funds to enable them to distribute food and water to many people in this area. Supplies are being purchased locally—no bottlenecks. These relief efforts will gradually evolve into a food-for-work program. A medical/humanitarian EMAS Mission Team will travel to Bon Repos in May to bring assistance. There are an estimated 50,000 people in this region and many without food or water, trying to survive. They need your help! Please prayerfully consider making a contribution towards the cost of humanitarian relief supplies, medications, travel costs to get our second team on location, and building projects to bring assistance to these suffering people and to get the children back into school. Haiti desperately needs our help. Our ability to respond depends on YOU.

EMAS CANADA Policies Disbursement of funds is limited to Board approved programs or projects. Every contribution which has been designated towards Haiti relief will be used as designated with the understanding that, when the need for such relief has been met, any remaining designated contributions will be used in Haiti where needed most. |
