EMAS CANADA/MTI TEAMS

EMAS CANADA'S Disaster Relief Teams work in collaboration with Medical Teams International (MTI) of Portland, Oregon, with whom we have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. MTI is a major and highly professional relief organization with a wealth of experience. We are pleased to be working along with them in Disaster Relief work. Their mission, vision and values are closely aligned with those of EMAS CANADA. See: MTI Mission, Vision and Values; EMAS CANADA's Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles

Registration

As an EMAS volunteer, please follow the MTI registration process, flagging your application as being from EMAS. When a disaster occurs to which MTI wishes to respond in collaboration with EMAS, they contact EMAS and we co-ordinate the formation and mobilization of EMAS Teams, with MTI. Typically, teams are comprised of four volunteers: two doctors and two nurses. Fundraising efforts are also undertaken.

MTI Registration

On the MTI website at www.medicalteams.org, go to Disaster Response Volunteer Opportunities, where you will find the Application Form and other materials. Under Volunteer Resources, you will also see a wealth of information and training materials on Disaster Relief work.

Completing the Application Form

At the top of the MTI Application Form, where there is a box titled "for attention of," please write Tammy Teske in this field as she is the co-ordinator for the EMAS/MTI collaboration. In order to identify yourself as an EMAS volunteer, please write "EMAS" in the second part of the Education and Experience section at the bottom of Page 1 of the Application Form. After you have submitted the application you may be contacted by an MTI volunteer to review it.

If you are interested in forming a team with three of your colleagues, please register with MTI individually and give the names of your team members to Tammy Teske, Manager, Disaster Relief at MTI, (503) 624-1000, tteske@medicalteams.org. Once registered, please advise Mike Wills~ at EMAS CANADA.

As an EMAS CANADA/MTI volunteer, you are required to sign MTI's Code of Conduct, which you can download here.

Non-healthcare Volunteers

Please advise Mike Wills of your availability and he will contact you should a need for your expertise arise. There is no need to register with MTI at this time.
