Recruitment for Disaster Relief Team

Would you be willing to help in medical emergencies overseas?

EMAS organizes Disaster Relief Teams able to respond to situations overseas where medical aid is needed. A Committee has been formed to drive the planning work and is being advised by Daren Darbyson of PEI, who served as a Search and Rescue Technician before retiring from the Armed Services in 2006.

The teams are comprised of medical personnel who could be fielded within a few days of a disaster occurring. Typically, disaster relief takes place in three phases: (i) Immediate Life-Saving; (ii) Stabilization; and (iii) General Recovery. Our focus is on the Stabilization phase.

While we try to respond to situations in any country, the relationships that we have developed over many years of fielding medical teams lead us to focus particularly on countries where we have established relationships and experience.

We continue to explore how best to contribute to Disaster Relief work. If you have expertise in this area or are a doctor or a nurse who can be mobilized on short notice, please provide your contact details and we will add your name to our Disaster Relief Roster.

EMAS Assists with Disaster Relief

in partnership with other organizations.

We have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Medical Teams International (MTI) of Portland, Oregon, to collaborate in Disaster Relief work. They have a wealth of experience in this area and their mission, vision and values are very closely aligned with ours.

We field doctors, nurses, grief and spiritual counselors, all of whom receive training before mobilization. For more information, see www.emascanada.org/disasterrelief_MTI.htm

Thank you for your willingness to undertake Disaster Relief work.
