The Uganda team for 2010 is looking for additional members to meet the needs of the 30,000 people in the catchment area of the Rambia Health Centre, located near Fort Portal in the western region of Uganda.

We are looking for the following team members, based on our work in this community in 2009:

  1. A physiotherapist-since the subsistence farmers in this community have many back, joint and muscle-related problems;
  2. A pharmacist-to establish a proper records system, establish a formulary, and to assist with dispensing;
  3. A dentist;
  4. An ophthalmologist;
  5. A laboratory technologist-to teach, and improve methods;
  6. An agriculturalist-since most of the healthcare problems we saw in 2009 are poverty-related, we would like to have the services of an agriculturalist to explore ways in which the subsistence incomes of the community could be improved; and
  7. Someone to work with local churches in establishing a sports ministry, in view of the large number of children and young adults in the community.

Rambia's Health Centre is located in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, a very lush and scenic area popular for its chimpanzee tracking tours and volcanic lakes. Simple but excellent accommodation is provided at a conference centre run by the Carmelite Nuns of St. Therese of Lisieux Monastery.
