| Medical Team for Zambia | |||
|
|
We have been asked by Bishop Joshua Banda, of the Northmead Assembly of God Church in Lusaka, Zambia, if we could send a medical team to Chipepo, where they have established a mission post and a small church. Chipepo is a very poor community on the edge of Lake Kariba (the man-made lake which is shared by Zambia and Zimbabwe); it is about 160 km south of Lusaka. The nearest medical facility is approximately five hours walk from there and the immediate catchment area has a population of about 10,000. We know very little about Chipepo and would therefore view this first visit as a scouting trip to determine conditions and the community's healthcare needs. We understand however that living conditions will be rough. For this first visit, we think that a general practitioner with experience in Africa, who is not deterred by difficult living conditions, would be ideal. A visit from a doctor would be an incredible blessing for this poor community and would touch the lives of hundreds of people.
