More than 32 million Indonesians currently live below the poverty line. Public services are inadequate and half the population lacks health insurance coverage. The infant mortality rate is 36.8% and maternal mortality is also very high.
The arduous terrain and the absence of roads, in some areas, prevent many Indonesians from access to even the most basic services such as healthcare and education beyond elementary school. Access to safe drinking water is limited, resulting in frequent cases of diarrhoea and often death. Malaria is rampant in rural areas.
EMAS Canada has been working with an orphanage in Jakarta to bring assistance and is also exploring a second mission facility.
Planning for a mission to Jakarta, Bandung and Bali in partnership with local churches is under development. Please contact the Team Leader, Dr. Tim Tam, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
